Spirit
varnish Ia
Spirit varnish has always been the most commonly used for stringed
instruments. It dries quickly, thus allowing a daily coating. The
coating must be applied quickly, however, in order to prevent the
varnish from clouding, especially on color varnish. Every coat must
be thoroughly dried before the next coat is applied in order to
prevent and cracks from materialising later. (Press hard on the
varnish with your thumb for a few seconds. If it fails to make a
print in the varnish then you can apply the next coat ). Spirit
varnish can be smoothed well with pumice-stone or rottenstone and
polished with an appropriate polish.
JOHA®
Propolis mixed varnish
It is an Italian type of spirit varnish with, in spite of being
a very soft varnish, dries well. After it has been left to dry for
a few days it polishes very well. As the name suggests this varnish
is partly made up of propolis and is of a particulary fine quality.
(Its natural color is a beautiful antique yellow). This varnish
should be smoothed with roughstone and polished after it has dried
thoroughly (for at least 30 days).
